ABOUT THE ROLE
As CFO, you will build and manage the financial foundations of Lucerno as it transitions from an unincorporated organisation to a funded, revenue-generating consultancy. In the near term, this means developing financial models, tracking budgets, and creating the reporting infrastructure needed to attract future investors. As Lucerno moves into pro-bono and eventually paid engagements, you will lead financial due diligence and pricing strategy. You will work closely with the LFI branch, bringing credibility and professional oversight to our financial practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop Lucerno\\\\\\\'s financial model, including revenue projections, cost structures, and funding scenarios
• Create and maintain budget tracking across all branches and executive functions
• Design KPI frameworks and financial reporting dashboards for the executive team
• Prepare financial documentation for future incorporation and investor conversations
• Advise on pricing strategy for pro-bono and paid client engagements
• Manage relationships with any external financial or legal partners
• Contribute to the LFI branch\\\\\\\'s analytical output, quality-reviewing finance-related publications
• Identify and apply for grants, accelerator programmes, and funding opportunities relevant to Lucerno\\\\\\\'s stage
ABOUT YOU
NECESSARY
• Strong command of financial modelling (Excel or Google Sheets to a professional standard)
• Understanding of start-up financing mechanisms — equity, grants, revenue-based models
• Ability to communicate financial insight clearly to non-finance colleagues
• High attention to detail and comfort managing ambiguity in an early-stage organisation
• Integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information
IDEAL
• 3–6 years of experience in finance, accounting, financial consulting, or a related field
DESIRABLE
• ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CFA qualification (full or part-qualified)
• Experience working in a consultancy, investment firm, or early-stage start-up
• Familiarity with UK incorporation and corporate governance requirements
• Knowledge of grant funding or impact investment landscapes relevant to think tanks
